Mr & Mrs MacGregor's Wedding
On the 27th of September 2020, at the five star Cromlix Hotel in Kinbuck, Alyson and David MacGregor said “I do’ in a small intimate ceremony surrounded by their closest friends and family.
“David and I met in 2016,” Alyson said, “and we got engaged on the 4th of August 2020, at Cromlix. We fell in love with the Cromlix hotel, luckily they had a date available, and we got married there eight weeks later”.
The wedding planning all but fell into place for the couple, there was no question as to where the venue was going to be,“Of course it had to be Cromlix,”Alyson said. “However, the most difficult choice for David and I was choosing the menu for the meal and the wine!”
The celebrant was booked, flowers organised, photographer sorted, and invites sent…it was now time for the dress.
“I went dress shopping with my two bridesmaids and future sister-in-law. I tried on two dresses but, I just knew the first dress was the one…it was perfect. Choosing the bridesmaid dresses and colour was simple and straightforward as well, thankfully!”.
As for David and his three sons, they were all sorted with their kilts, of course, in the MacGregor tartan.
However Covid was still rife and there were still restrictions on the number of guest allowed at weddings. Alyson said: “The weeks were flying by till the wedding, but every Tuesday Nicola Sturgeon, the First Minister at the time, would make her weekly announcements as more restrictions were coming back into force as Covid numbers were on the rise…we made it just by the skin of our teeth”.
It then came to the day of the MacGregor wedding. “When we woke up the sky was blue and the sun was shining. We had a lovely breakfast and David and I went a lovely walk around the grounds.” Alyson added: “My daughter and my best friend Carol came up to help me get ready and we cracked open a bottle of bubbly and had some delicious chocolate strawberries”.
“We only had 19 people, including myself and David. It was so personal and intimate, just how we wanted it”.
Alyson said: “I think one of the most special things about our day for me was that my 99 year old Granny was able to spend our special day with us, and she loved every moment…especially her lemon tart at the meal”.
“Our day was perfect, I would not change a single thing about it,” Alyson said, “Even if Covid was not about David and I would have still opted for a small, intimate day”.
Alyson leaves you lovely brides and grooms with one great piece of advice:
“Have your wedding day the way you want it. Don’t let others force you to have something you don’t want. Do it your way and do what makes you happy”.
